Summer 2017

During the summer of 2017 my friend Caden and I decided to take a journey around the country for 30 days. We started in Florence, Alabama at my uncle's lake house. We spent 4 days there relaxing after a long outdoor season of racing for Mississippi State. After the lake we went to hangout music festival on the beach. Down in Gulf Shores, Alabama we saw all sorts of concerts. From Marshmello to Migos we saw it all. After a great expedition in Alabama we decided to head out on Monday the 22nd of May. We drove 27 straight hours across Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and finally to Colorado. We met up with our old friend Pierce who worked for Noah's Ark rafting in Buena Vista. We camped on Cottonwood pass just outside the city for a few nights, taking in as much as the scenery as we could. After exploring Buena Vista for a while we moved on to our next destination, Telluride, Colorado. We stayed there for a 2 days camping on the outskirts of town. We were able to take our first shower there since Alabama, which was nice. After Telluride we headed west again to Moab Utah where we spent 3 days there. We were able to get lucky on Memorial day and meet a nice guy named Trace who was nice enough to let us use his front yard as a camp site. He gave us showers as we needed it from running and hiking all around the city. We visited Arches National Park and explored as much as we could. Getting lost in the park was a blessing as we found some secluded places that we surreal. When the time come to leave we knew we would miss it as soon as we left the city. However up next was one of my favorite cities, Flagstaff. This quaint little town in northern Arizona is a distance running mecca and home to many pro teams and athletes from all around. We got some great running and hiking in as we wandered around the area. We visited the Grand Canyon and Sedona while we were there, taking in as much as we could. On our way out we decided to go to Winslow, Arizona where we took a dip in Clear Water Creek. Seemed like a great place to take a shower however after a cliff jumping accident we decided to leave shortly after we arrived. Next stop was Las Vegas, Nevada. Hobbling around the strip was fun and all, but it would have been much more fun had I not almost blown my MCL the day before at Clear Creek. After a night at a friends house we trekked on up to Reno, Nevada. Being a Reno native it was nice to come home and see plenty of old friends. Caden and I did the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey which is a 178 mile road race. Our team of 12 runners took home the mixed division titled and completed the race in 20:04. Since I couldn't run I was the designated driver for the crew as running 20 hours straight takes its toll on the body. After a few days in Reno, we headed to our final destination in Morgan Hill, California. All in all it took us 30 days to complete this trip, having wasted no time and camping everywhere to save money, it was certainly one for the books.
